Nikko Edomura, Edo Wonderland

Nikko Edomura is a historical theme park in Nikko, Japan, recreating the Edo period (1603-1868). Visitors can step back in time and experience life in a traditional Japanese town. It features period-specific architecture, costumed performers, samurai shows, and various cultural activities, providing an immersive glimpse into Japan's feudal past.

For the full experience, get fitted out in an Edo Era costume upon arrival and have some fun as one of the locals! The citizens of Edo Wonderland will interact with you according to your costume. Samurai can challenge other swordsman by flashing their sword, enforce the law as a police officer, be treated like royalty as a princess, go unseen as a ninja, or blend into the crowd as a just another towns folk. *Costume hire is an additional cost.

Ninja Theatre: I highly recommend making it to the Ninja Theatre it is spectacular with very minimal dialogue making it easy to follow even without speaking Japanese.

Showings at 9:40am - 11:40am - 2:15pm - 3:50pm

Swordsmanship: If youโ€™re interested in a taking a free samurai swordsmanship class, head to the Samurai Training Hall as early as you can to register as spaces are limited.

Fun Activities for the whole Family: Donโ€™t miss the ninja star throwing hall and archery experience, youโ€™ll need 600 yen each for the vending machines.

Oiran Parade: At 1:45pm thereโ€™s an Oiran Parade (Oiran is a collective term for the highest-ranking courtesans in Japanese history) down the main stretch of Edomura which is quite a spectacle, and as it only happens once a day, it can be easy to accidentally miss.

Meet Nyanmage: Meet up with the Cat Samurai, Edo Muras friendly mascot. You can find him wandering Edo Wonderland throughout the day, but he can often be found hanging around near the Cultural Cinema before the movies start.

Ninja Maze: Be sure to stop by the Maze before you call it a day, the maze is much more than originally meets the eye!
